Sunday, 16th December 2018, marked another historical landmark, as the Chief Guest of the inaugural ceremony Dr. Arif Alvi (President of Pakistan) inaugurated the Engro Leadership Academy (ELA), as part of the Karachi School of Business & Leadership (KSBL). Moreover dignitaries, Mr. Hussain Dawood (Founder & Chariman, KSBL), Mr. Dominic Barton (Managing Partner, McKinsey & Company), Mr. Muneer Kamal (CEO, KEI), Mr. Ghias Khan (President & CEO Engro Corporation), Mr. Salman Ahmed (Senior Partner, Mc Kinsey & Company), Dr. Zeeshan Ahmed (Dean, KSBL), Dr. Nadeem Javaid (Professor of Practice, KSBL), and other prominent personalities from corporate sector, graced the celebratory occasion with their presence.
At the inauguration the Founder and Chairman of KSBL, Chairman of Engro Corporation and Dawood Foundation, Mr. Hussain Dawood, emphasized the need for producing leaders in Pakistan with traits of Truth, Trust, Humility, Integrity and competence. He further added, “This is the beginning of a journey of life-long learning for individuals striving to improve their strength of character, to trust and respect themselves, and then to inspire that trust in others.”
Commenting on the importance of leadership and its training in today’s era, Mr. Dominic Barton said (Managing Partner, McKinsey & Company), “The organizations that focus on leadership outperform in comparison to those that do not…..The qualities of leadership in any form, revolve around character-building, which I believe is an important part of the program embedded in the Engro Leadership Academy. With the launch of ELA, I am looking forward to turbo-charging of the number of leaders that we have in the business community in the public sector and the social sector, not only in Pakistan but for the world.”
The President of Engro Corporation, Ghias Khan shared his views on philosophy of cultivating and retaining talent at Engro. He said, “We realize that development of leaders requires a fine balance between practical on-the-job learning, in-classroom trainings, and self-reflection. With this purpose in mind, we have built the ELA, which will help ignite people’s personal transformations and equip them to drive change at Engro and beyond.”
Mr. Salman Ahmad (Senior Partner – McKinsey and Company), also spoke on the academy’s long-term vision on human development. He said, “As the first company in Pakistan to launch a bespoke corporate academy to groom its existing and future leaders, Engro is setting a new standard for leadership development. The programs apply both best practice as well as cutting-edge techniques for learning and capacity building, anchored in tailored leadership journeys for each participant.”
Expressing his views on the launch of ELA at KSBL, Dr. Zeeshan Ahmed (Dean, KSBL) said, “Inauguration of ELA at KSBL is a major milestone in the country’s business education landscape. While there are several examples of academia-corporate collaborations worldwide, this is the first time ever that a leading company has established its academy at an eminent business school in Pakistan. Engro Leadership Academy at KSBL is intended to develop business leaders with capabilities, depth and character traits, who are needed to lead the business in the digital era, with vision, resolve and responsibility. I would like to personally thank the Chairman Engro and KSBL, Mr. Hussain Dawood, Engro board members and the Engro – KSBL team for bringing the idea of Engro Leadership Academy to fruition.”
The academy includes courses on leading self, leading teams, leading business, and leading change. It will extend its services and leadership philosophy to private and public-sector institutes. Moreover it will also offer customized programs that will be designed as per the strategic requirements of organizations.
