Innovation and Design Thinking

Highly successful organizations must innovate continuously to stay relevant. This requires passionate staff with an achievement orientation and the intellectual capacity to innovate in their own areas. Working in teams, they explore opportunities for better processes, products and services.

The Innovation and Design Thinking Workshop will challenge you to develop a viable product, process or service for your organization. You will work in a group to solve a real-life problem with commercial benefits for a business. Over 3-days you will push your creativity and execution skills to the limit as you interact with potential customers, suppliers, partners and business stakeholders.

Your instructor will share practical tools and guide you as you compete for the top spot on the Innovation leaderboard.


The facilitator will share tools and templates for the product development process. Participants will apply these tools on an actual project (a process or product they wish to innovate in). During the course of the day they will follow through on this project from problem research all the way to production validation.

Workshop Agenda:

- The need for new solutions within the company and outside
- Distinguishing between incremental innovation and radical innovation when creating new solutions

- Intrapreneurs (Entrepreneurs within the company)
- Understanding the complex network of stakeholders involved in any project

- A process for innovation and design pioneered at IDEO

- Identify an idea that will solve a specific problem (whether within the company or outside)

- Build, measure, learn, repeat
- Identify and prioritize assumptions

- Create a concept video and social media advertisement to test assumptions.
- Determine success KPIs to understand whether end-users will be delighted

- Take your experiment to actual users (or surrogates) and gather feedback

- Use feedback to create an interface or test a different assumption
- Run usability test for feedback or iteration
- Psychology behind human-machine interface

- Identify and test a prototype (POP)

- Pivot or Persevere

Mr. Kamran Kiyani

Managing Director at GEM

Kamran Kiyani is the Managing Director at GEM where he designs innovative products, services and processes. Several of his products have been commercialized successfully. Kamran developed his design experience in the medical devices industries in the US. He trained in process & product innovation while working at General Electric before joining GEM, where he has helped clients deploy digital innovation initiatives in a wide range of industries. Kamran has a Masters in Technology Design from Harvard University and an MBA from the Krannert School. He graduated with a B.S. in Actuarial Science from Purdue University and a Procert in Innovation & Technology from MIT. He is also certified as a Human Behavior Consultant from the Leadership Institute of America and is a Lean Six Sigma Master Black Belt. Kamran is an avid martial artist and strength athlete. In his free time, he pursues his interest in paragliding in the north of the country.

Discount Options:

  10% discount for each additional participant (after the first) from the same organisation.
  10% discount for any individual enrolling in more than two programmes during the applicable year. This is regardless of whether the person applies in an individual capacity or is nominated by an organisation.
