Dr Fouzia Haneef Khan is a Lecturer (Teaching) within the Faculty of Medicine at Imperial College London. She has vast teaching and research experience spanning over 10 years. Fouzia contributes to teaching and learning activity by taking an active role in promoting up-to-date and innovative pedagogy and practice.
Fouzia joined Imperial College London in 2019. She is mainly responsible for coordinating, teaching, and organising the MSc Genes, Drugs and Stem Cells (GDS) – Novel Therapies programme of the Faculty of Medicine. The Programme provides academic and laboratory research training in three key areas: Gene and Nucleic Acid Based Therapies, New Horizons in Pharmacology and Regenerative Medicine. Fouzia also implements the authentic assessments for that course. As a lead for the Coordinated Transformation Group, Fouzia plays a key role in the transformation of the MSc programme to blended/remote delivery. She is a project supervisor and a module leader for the Evidence, Information and Communication module and the Research project module in her programme. Fouzia also teaches ad-hoc to the MBBS students and is a personal and academic tutor for undergraduates and postgraduates within the Faculty.
Fouzia is a graduate of UCL. She completed her BSc in Pharmacology and Toxicology with first Class honours. During her undergraduate degree, she spent a year working in the Development Pharmacology department as a Research Associate within Glaxo Smithkline (GSK). After her graduation, she was invited to join the PhD programme at UCL under the supervision of Professor Mike Simmonds. Her PhD research investigated the "Influence of membrane cholesterol on Neurosteroid modulation of Benzodiazepine/ GABAA receptor".
Prior to joining Imperial College in 2019, Fouzia taught on the MSc Drug Discovery and the MPharm programmes. She is currently a Pharmacy OSCE (objective structured clinical examination) Assessor for the Research Department of Practice and Policy within UCL.
Fouzia serves on the Education Committee of the British Pharmacological Society’s (BPS) and develops resources and supports teaching initiatives to improve education, teaching, training, and continuing professional development for pharmacologists across the UK. She is also the member of the Equality, Diversity, and Inclusion (EDI) Committee at Imperial College London, where she contributes to the Athena SWAN framework to encourage and recognise commitment to advancing the careers of women in Science, Technology, Engineering, Maths and Medicine (STEMM) in higher education and research.
Fouzia is a recipient of several awards and prizes. She has presented her research as talks and posters at various conferences on both STEM and Education topics. She is a Fellow of the Higher Education Academy (FHEA) which is an indicator of the professional achievement for higher education practitioners against the UK Professional Standard Framework. She has recently achieved a Post Graduate Diploma in ULT (University Learning and Teaching) and currently pursuing MEd and working towards a Senior Fellowship from Imperial College London.
Fouzia is passionate about technology-led pedagogy, specifically developing innovative teaching and blended learning practice. Fouzia has been a leading player in the use of e-pedagogy within her programme and is keen to create opportunities for sharing good practice in teaching and learning across universities within UK and other countries.
