Karachi School for Business & Leadership (KSBL) in collaboration with National Entrepreneurship Working Group (NEW-G) organised a seminar on Entrepreneurship for Economic Growth on November 21, 2014 at KSBL campus. The seminar was attended by CEOs, corporate executives, consular officials, young entrepreneurs and leaders from academia and social sector enterprises.
This was the first joint activity between the two organisations to promote entrepreneurship in Pakistan as part of the Global Entrepreneurship Week (GEW) activities. Global Entrepreneurship Week (GEW), an initiative of the Kauffman Foundation, started in 2007 with 37 countries with the idea to inspire people everywhere to unleash their ideas and take the next step in their entrepreneurial journey. In 2014, more than 140 countries have hosted events to celebrate GEW from November 17 to 23.
DR. IMRAN ALI, Dean KSBL while addressing the audience emphasized on the need for Entrepreneurship focused education and its practical implementation especially in educational institutions in our country.
President NEW-G RIZWAN RAZVI, in his Presentation, talked about “National Entrepreneurship Ecosystem Development Strategy (NEEDS)” and its core activities. He highlighted the need to establish a web portal that provides comprehensive online resources & information, and helps implement strategies to develop various domains of the entrepreneurship ecosystem.
SAAD AMANULLAH KHAN, Chairman Pakistan Innovation Foundation General Secretary NEW-G augmented on the need for Smart Angel Funding programmes and the pivotal rule it may play in facilitating young entrepreneurs with their start-ups.
The seminar also included a panel discussion on ‘Role of opinion leaders in creating an entrepreneurial ecosystem’. This thought provoking discussion was moderated byOMER GHANIRegional Director South Asia, with some eminent guests from the industry including NAVEED SIRAJ, Country Manager INTEL & Treasurer NEW-G, ZAINAB ANSARI, Director & CEO, Xenith PR, AYESHA AZIZ, Managing Director, Pak-Brunei and NASIM BEG, Chief Executive, Arif Habib Consultancy, whoshared their experiences and thoughts on the various issues faced by entrepreneurs during their start-up
The highlight of the seminar was the Elevator Pitch (EP) competition between the different groups of students participating from IBA, NUST, PNEC, KU, MAJU, PAF-KIET, Iqra and CBM; who presented their innovative business ideas to the team.
