The Karachi School for Business & Leadership hosted its third seminar in the series of Global and Pakistani Perspectives titled, Communicating the Vision and Building the Leadership team. The seminar was held at the city campus on May 28, 2013 and attended by approximately 180 participants representing the corporate community as well as various academic institutions.
Dr Nelson Phillips, Professor of Strategy and Organisational Behaviour at Imperial College Business School opened the seminar with a key note address in which he highlighted five principles for constructing a vision that would drive and at the same time keep the team motivated. He stressed that these principles viz. simplicity, unexpectedness, concreteness, credibility and emotions were important and focused on how a vision should be communicated in a way that it would stick and drive the organisation towards its strategic goal. The following presentation by Dr Athar Siddiqui titled “To Give and to Care. Rethinking the Leadership Vision” left the audience in a surprised silence for a few moments as it gave a different point of view from the keynote address. The audience found the two diverse viewpoints intellectually stimulating since they enabled them to explore and reflect the different angles regarding the role of the leader as a visionary.
Last on the agenda was a panel discussion on “Building the Leadership Team” moderated by Dr Rizwan Amin Sheikh, Professor of Practice at KSBL and participated by Mr Sarfaraz Rehman, CEO, The Dawood Foundation and Mr Javed Jabbar, Chairman and Chief Executive, JJ Media Pvt. Limited. The speakers shared thought provoking ideas which were much appreciated by the participants.
