Character-Driven Leadership at the Core of Societal Well-being: Rector KSBL Delivers Keynote Address at the Creating Livelihoods Summit 2026

June 16, 2026 – Representing the Karachi School of Business & Leadership (KSBL) at a prominent national forum, Rector Prof. Dr. Asghar Zaidi delivered a compelling keynote address at the Creating Livelihoods Summit 2026. Organized by the Pakistan Business Council (PBC) and its Centre of Excellence in Responsible Business (CERB), the summit brought together business leaders, academics, and policymakers to discuss sustainable economic growth and institutional responsibility.

In his address, titled “Building Character-Driven Leadership: Why the Character of Our Leaders Determines the Livelihoods of Our People?” Prof. Dr. Asghar Zaidi challenged organizations and educational institutions to look beyond traditional metrics of technical competence and credentials.

Key Takeaways from the Keynote Address

Prof. Dr. Asghar Zaidi emphasized that leadership is not an isolated exercise in strategy, but a responsibility with deep societal consequences.

  • The Impact on Communities: High-level leadership decisions fundamentally dictate jobs, market opportunities, public trust, and the baseline well-being of entire communities.
  • Beyond “Soft Skills”: Character should not be dismissed as a secondary soft skill. Instead, it serves as the operational foundation for all responsible and sustainable leadership.
  • The Pillars of Responsible Institutions: When leaders intentionally align their decisions with truthfulness, trustworthiness, integrity, humility, and a constant striving for excellence, they build resilient institutions that naturally foster sustainable livelihoods.

KSBL’s Operating Philosophy

The summit’s themes directly mirror the core educational model at KSBL. Rooted in the timeless wisdom of Prophet Muhammad (PBUH)—“The best amongst you are those who are best in character, having good manners”—KSBL treats character development not merely as a wall inscription, but as an active operating philosophy.

The institution distinguishes between two interconnected dimensions of development:

  1. Character: The internal framework formed inside an individual, governing their values, judgment, and conscience.
  2. Good Manners: The external manifestation of character—how leaders conduct themselves and treat those around them.

By actively championing character-driven leadership, KSBL continues its mission to develop professionals capable of building a more prosperous, ethical, and equitable future for society.
